Vote Rick Erickson for Cape Coral Mayor

I’m running for mayor because Cape Coral residents are being ignored and forced to bear the cost of decisions that benefit developers and special interests. Trust in our local government has eroded, and families are feeling the strain. After more than 32 years serving in the US Army and retiring as a Special Forces Sergeant Major, I know how to lead, solve problems, and fight for the people beside me—and now that fight is here at home.

I’m stepping forward to restore accountability, ease the financial burden on families, and put power back in the hands of residents by cutting unnecessary fees and fixing broken processes. Most importantly, I will ensure every citizen is heard, respected, and represented—because this city belongs to its people.

Rick is a father, decorated soldier, Green Beret, Army Ranger, 32-year veteran, and now ready to serve Cape Coral as your next Mayor.

My Oath Never Expires

I will work everyday to restore power to the people and reduce the financial burden they are carrying. That means cutting unnecessary fees, streamlining broken permitting processes, and addressing the infrastructure strains that are driving costs higher.

Above all, I will ensure residents have a real voice in their government again and that their concerns are heard, respected, and acted on. The council chambers will reflect that commitment, with citizen engagement placed front and center—where it belongs.

“Leadership isn’t about rank. It’s about responsibility, putting others first, and doing what’s right when it’s hard. Honor should guide those decisions and will define you long after.”

PRIORITY ONE

Create a UEP/Infrastructure Task Force
Engage State/Federal Partners

Create Urgency for Cost Savings

This is the biggest financial challenge we are facing. This and previous councils have not worked to remove roadblocks fast enough to keep up with inflation. As Mayor, I will make it my main priority to bring as many resources and relationships to bear to get a reasonable plan and State/Federal funds to reduce this mandated financial burden from our residents.

UEP
Ian 2022-Landfall

PRIORITY TWO

Hurricane Preparedness
Hurricane Response Focus
Get Life Back to Normal Faster

Hurricane Ian was a catastrophic event for most of Cape Coral's residents. There are many lessons to be learned from the Council's response to preparation and clean-up. As Mayor, I will take my emergency response experience and mobilize the city to higher safety standards and faster recovery time.

PRIORITY THREE

Protect Property Owners

Encourage Smart Growth
Invigorate Economic Development Office

Every candiate and mayor for 20 years has been talking about increasing the ratio of business to residential to share the tax burden. Nothing has been done in any significant way. We need an invigorated EDO and strategic plan to attract more business to our city. Not more talk. As mayor, I will work with the City Manager and the EDO to create incentive based opportunities for businesses that protect taxpayers and showcase our city for the amazing people we represent.

I PROMISE TO FREEZE MY PAY.

"Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it." - Winston Churchill

Mayor Gunter has been unapologetic for his unabashed support of the stipend. He led former council members down a path to take away your rights as voters to raise the wages of your council and mayor at the ballot box by calling it a stipend instead of what it was, a money-grab from the taxpayer. To be clear, anyone who voted for or took the stipend has forfeited the privilege of serving the people of Cape Coral.

I promise to freeze my pay as mayor and never vote to raise your taxes.
